Two mountain riders, Nakazato and Takahashi, challenged each other to find the best racers and defeat them in the "battles." One night, Nakazato unexpectedly suffered a defeat from the old Toyota Trueno AE86 (Corolla in the US), and he searched a man who defeated him, which led him to the local Speedstars team. But the car that beat him was actually caused by the local son of shopkeeper Tofu Takumi Fujiwara, who unconsciously perfected the art of mountain races through daily supplies of tofu. Takumi again was able to defeat Nakazato, showing that he was not an accident. However, the victory did not help him home, since his father, Bunta Fujiwara, was a drunkard (and racing genius). His girlfriend Natsuki Mogi wants his attention, although she has a dark and shameful secret, and his best friend Isuki (who does not have talent in management) wants Takumi to teach him road racing ... after buying a WRONG car.
